Summer has started to take hold bringing social media in the dispensary can drive

tips to improve engagment with your patients
You will have seen over the last few months a and keep them up to date with practice news.
lot of noise regarding the pharmacy contract
and an agreement to a new funding deal,
which depending on whose views you are Also we announce details of this year’s highly
listening to, is either the biggest uplift in anticipated PSUK live conferences and we
funding in years, or not enough for pharmacy. have all of your usual Top Tips, MDS terms
You may be wondering why I am mentioning and PI information.
the pharmacy contract in a dispensing
doctor magazine, but this is because there
are areas that impact Dispensing Doctors Happy reading!
around the amount of purchase profit the
              sector (pharmacy and dispensing doctors)
can make annually. This new funding deal
for pharmacy represents an elevation in
core activity funding to compensate for
higher employer costs… a good sign that
there is recognition of the increased costs
in dispensaries, which will hopefully be
recognised at some point in the dispensing
              doctor funding.

When I am out meeting members, profit
is always a topic of conversation, as is
Category M - the mechanism to monitor
and adjust profit from drug purchases –
but there is often a lot of confusion and
misunderstanding about what this is and how
it works. In this month’s edition we go back
to basics to explain the Drug Tariff, purchase
profit and how Cat M impacts this. You can
find this on page 5. Caroline Pond also talks
through this in more depth to help make this
              area clearer on page 30.

We also re-visit the PSUK PAD guide on
page 10 to remind you how to use this
functionality to support with the setting
of formularies whether this be to maximise
              margin or reduced costs.
