qualified as a solicitor in 1958 after studying at Birmingham University, and
                                    retired from legal practice in 2000.  He was Vice Chairman and a Trustee of
                                    the Trustee Savings Bank of Birmingham and the Midlands from 1976 to
                                    1983 and served as a Deputy Registrar/Deputy District Judge from 1982 to
                                    2005.    He  was  initiated  into  the  Ben  Marsh  masonic  lodge  in  1968  and
                                    subsequently held high office in numerous lodges and at provincial level,
                                    including Senior Grand Warden, Worcestershire and Junior Grand Warden,
                                    Warwickshire.  He lived at West Hagley.


            433  John  Colin  JARVIS,  JP  (1930-2016)  (Inducted  29.12.1969;  left  October
                  1987.)  Auctioneer.  Partner with Noel Thompson, (club member #213) in
                  the firm of estate agents Noel Thompson & Co of Stone Street, Dudley.  He
                  joined the practice about 1962 and became a partner in 1967.  Soon after
                  Noel’s  death  in  1977  he  formed  a  new  partnership  with  David  Cariss
                  (member #411) as Cariss Noel Thompson, but retired 10 years later to the
                  village of Llansilin near Oswestry.  He was brought up in Shropshire and
                  lived  in  Oswestry  before  coming  to  Dudley.    He  served  as  a  Dudley
                  magistrate and also one 3-year term as a Dudley councillor from 1978.

            434  Robert  Daniel  (‘Bob’)  PARRY  (1925-1990)  (Inducted  25.4.1970;  left  in  1976/77.)  Banking.
                  Manager of the National Westminster Bank, Castle Street, Dudley from 1969. He grew up in
                  Anglesey, and saw military service with the Royal Navy.  He started his banking career with
                  National  Westminster  in  Nantwich,  then  came  to  Dudley  as  a  clerk  in  1947.    He  served  as
                  manager of the Halesowen branch before returning to take charge at Dudley.  During his period
                  in the Rotary club he played a major part in fund raising and was very involved in the purchase
                  by Rotary of the first mobile cardiac unit for Burton Road Hospital in 1971 and its replacement
                  in  1975.    He  was  an  enthusiastic  member  of  Enville  Golf  Club  and  was  responsible  for  the
                  provision of a watering system to be laid throughout the course. His home was in Pedmore.

            435  John HOYLE (1924-1975) (Inducted 25.4.1970; died late 1975 whilst still a member.)  Borough
                                     Librarian.  Director of Libraries, Museums and Arts for Dudley from 1968
                                     and Director of Leisure and Recreation from 1974.  He succeeded Alex
                                     Wilson (member #365) as Borough Librarian but died in post 7 years later
                                     at the age of only 51. He played a major part in establishing the Black
                                     Country Living Museum and also international recognition of the fossil
                                     collection held by the Borough museums service.  He grew up and started
                                     his career in Ashton-under-Lyne just east of Manchester.  He then worked
                                     in branch libraries at Speke, Everton and Wavertree in Liverpool before
                                     becoming  deputy  librarian  at  Burton-upon-Trent.    His  next  post  was
                  deputy director of Oldham public libraries - during which time he was national president of the
                  Association of Assistant Librarians - and finally Director at Dudley.

            436  James  (‘Jim’)  Edward  HOBBS  (1929-  )  (Inducted 25.4.1970;  left  during  1974.)  Accountant.
                  Insolvency specialist and chartered accountant in the partnership Stevenson, Nock, Hobbs & Co
                  at 2 Castle Hill, Dudley from about 1960.  The practice moved to 10 The Broadway in 1971.   He
                  was  closely  involved  in  the  financial  planning  of  Rotary  House  but  resigned  as  Housing
                  Association Treasurer and from the Rotary Club in 1974 after suffering a stroke.  From about
                  1976 he set himself up as Hobbs & Co at 90 Worcester Road, West Hagley, close to where he
                  has lived from the 1960s.
