It is not stated whether the Installation was the extended version or Emulation. However, it
can be assumed that it is not the extended working as the Master Elect did not leave the Lodge
whilst the Board of Installed Masters was opened.
Change of Secretary, Bro Cayzer to Bro R Braithwaite. Writing much improved. Bro Cayzer,
a Founder, became JD and held up the chain below him. However, he did not continue the
following year and dropped out of the progression.
Still problems with honours. The Pr bit often missed.
In April 1954 the new Secretary attached the accounts to the Minutes.
20 January 1955 was the first Past Masters Night.
17 March 1955 was the first time reference is made to Minutes being amended. The February
Minutes were amended to say Treasurer was balloted for not elected.
Accounts for 1953-4 suggest subscription was 6 guineas and 1954-5 6 guineas. Subscription
never appeared on the Summons. Figure from subs in arrear and advance.
21 April 1955 was the first report of Honours being awarded. W Bro G N Raybould had been
promoted to PSGStB although it was probably his first Grand Lodge appointment. In October
that year it was reported that W Bro Sidaway had received Provincial Honours. These were
not specified. He was not saluted at this or subsequent meetings – only W Bro Raybould as a
Grand Lodge officer. In November 1955 W Bro R S Goodman is stated to have the rank of
PPrAGReg. There had been no mention of this previously. Both W Bro Goodman and W Bro
Sidaway were Past Masters when they became Founders and are likely to have received their
honours through another Lodge. If so is this why they were not saluted at Shenstone? Also in
that November W Bro Grimes presented a cheque to W Bro Raybould which was a donation
from all the brethren towards the cost of W Bro Rayboulds Grand Lodge regalia. In January
1956 a letter from the Provincial Grand Secretary about wearing Past master’s collars stated
that it usually takes 5 to 6 years after being Master.
First Honours for the Lodge announced on 18 October 1956. W Bro A J Grimes to PPrJGW
and W Bro T B Robinson to PPrSGD.
At the same meeting on the Second Rising it was reported that a letter had been received from
from PGL that "because of rowing dissention amongst Freemasons on the question of the future
educationlal policy of the Boy's Institution and the serious damage which a continuance of this
dissention might do to the Craft as a whole he [the GM] had decided to intervene as Grand
Master". The Grand Master set up a Committee of Enquiry.
On 19 January 1956 a Dispensation from Grand Sec to hold the meeting as Warrant had been
mislaid was read at the start by the Secretary. This continued and the permission was handed
to the new Master in march 1956.
19 April 1956 Bro Rev P T B B Lutton became a joining member. He had to make a declaration
under R 163 Book of Constitutions and permission from Grand Lodge as he was initiated in a
Lodge in another Constitution. He was a member of the Tartaghan Lodge No 789 under the
Irish Constitution.
The Charity Steward was elected by the Brethren as well as Treasurer and Tyler. Under the
current Book of Constitutions R104 (a) the Master appoints the Charity Steward. Throughout
