P. 29

He tossed and turned me I couldn’t help

             but slinkishly slide

my words bounced around as I tried

explaining but he escalated petty plights

             these flights

faulting our foundations; I insisted we

             calm down

and down we went this tumbling with the

             tide

no pride in our divide, now division

I wanted to turn around; start over with
             precision

I told you I preferred stable ground

I prefer hazard less hikes abound

             not heights, trekking unmarked trails

             too unpredictable of a flight

             can you see in-spite

             of the whimsy

we ain’t getting nowhere, our love now

             fragile and flimsy
