Bird’s-Eye View
John 2:13–22
A: Croo
B: Croo
A: Croo
B: Coo – that was a near thing!
A: You got away, too!
B: Who wouldn’t take such a chance of freedom? I flew right up to the roof.
A: I like the view.
B: The bird’s-eye view. Me too.
A: Too
B: Too
A: Too
B: They are milling round down there.
A: They don’t know what’s hit them – what a kerfuffle!
B: Jesus certainly ruffled a few feathers …
A: And saved our necks into the bargain. Why did he do it?
B: Animal liberation? There were cattle and sheep, too.
A: But the money changers – what did he have against them?
B: Didn’t you hear what he said to the dealer in pigeons?
A: Don’t mention those villains!
B: He said, ‘You must not turn my Father’s house into a market.’
A: Quite right too!
B: Too
A: Too
B: Too
A: His Father’s house?
B: He meant the temple here.
A: It’s home for quite a few – the sparrows and swallows, who build their nests up
in the roof; the human beings, who are here singing praise to God, day by day.
B: But the buyers and sellers, they made themselves quite at home: they set their
tables, paid for pitches, built pens for the sheep and cattle …
A: Brought us along, in our cages, to wait for a family to come: ‘Two pigeons
please, to offer on the altar as we bring our baby son to the temple.’
B: Lovely child – pity about the pigeons!
A: It probably happened when Jesus was born: being welcomed into his Father’s
house with a child-size sacrifice, a few white feathers fluttering down …
B: Well, we’ve survived to fly another day!
