COMMITTEE
Committee Co-Chairs:
Sorors Dacia Riley-Taylor and Barbara Hollinger
On December 1, 2021, the International Awareness and Involvement Committee presented a virtual panel discussion, "Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equal Access, Everyone's Voice," supporting World AIDS Day. This dynamic presentation featured community resources and contact information to "Know Your Status," the Federal Response to HIV/AIDS, and a robust panel discussion by leading experts in the Broward County HIV/AIDS community, including persons living with HIV/AIDS. The panel discussion was an open virtual forum presented on Zoom and Facebook live. It was well-attended by sorority members, the community, and international visitors.
Leading up to this event and further supporting World AIDS Day initiatives within our community, sorors of BCAC collected over 198 unwrapped new toys, 1,356 books, and $125 in gift cards during our holiday toy drive. Sorors distributed these items to underserved children and families in Broward County on December 3, 2021, during the Light Up Sistrunk, an annual community-based holiday event within the municipalities of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. BCAC members were excited to volunteer and participate in this event, which also afforded our community the opportunity to be screened for HIV/AIDS.
BCAC-DST thanks Black Treatment Advocates Network (BTAN), Broward County, the City of Fort Lauderdale and the Florida Health Department for this community partnership.
