Help Haiti:
One Sole at a Time by Tamara Gant
Broward County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated "Stepped Up" and "Stepped Out" to help those in Haiti by having a shoe donation drive at the Kathleen C. Wright Delta Educational and Life Development Center, a.k.a. "The Delta House."
Over a 3-day period in April, BCAC Deltas collected more than 1000 gently worn shoes from the community and sorority members. Those donations were boxed up and will be shipped to Haiti through a community partnership with the local non- profit, Recycle Shoe Project.
Before being shipped off to Haiti, the donated shoes will be refurbished by South Florida residents of Haitian descent who are learning the art of shoe repair and then mailed and distributed to Haiti. The refurbished shoes will help keep them safe from disease and create awareness of what recycling a pair of shoes can do for our planet and developing nations.
Recycle Shoe Project is a community service enterprise that assists organizations, non-profits and youth groups by collecting gently worn shoes. Recycle Shoe Project gives 50¢ for every pound of shoes recycled to their partners to bring awareness to the underprivileged and reduce their carbon footprint. Any charity, organization, youth group, or individual will benefit from participating. It's a win-win-win for BCAC, Recycle Shoe Project, and Haiti's residents!

Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life, and not something you do in your spare time.” ~ Marian Wright Edelman
March of Dimes by Atasha Byrd
The Broward County
Alumnae Chapter of
DELTA SIGMA THETA
SORORITY INC. united
with The March of
Dimes to enrich the
mission to support
families and babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) at Broward Health Medical Hospital. Every life and their quality of life matter. Each financial donation or person that physically supported the walk helped to support research to find solutions and advocate for policies that prioritize the health of moms and babies. The goal is for every family to get the best possible chance at a healthier start.
BCAC and Friends: SOS 5K Steps for Children by Samone Gibson
The SOS 5K Walk/Run, Steps for Children, was hosted at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, FL. We raised a record amount of $5,550 in donations. This is a partnership activity to help raise funds so that foster children in our community may be supported.
Having members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. visibly present in the community helps elevate our mission and the organization's purpose.
