                                    East-West Championship

                                                The West Prevails 19-17

It was a beautiful weekend for golf for the 2022 East-West Championship,
played on the Woods course, October 21 - 23. The East wanted revenge, while
the West dug in to defend their title! The West was led by Captain Chuck
Whitechurch and Co-Captain Tom White. The West took a commanding 8-4
lead on day one. The power pairings of Pehr/Christie and Weber/Zawacki
won both of their matches to lead the way. McNulty/Conway,
Latchum/Costello, and Driskill/Starling also had victories. Though Carlson
and Howard did not win on day 1, they bounced back on Saturday and
                                                        Sunday.

On day 2, the East captain Bill Goodale
and his Lieutenant Todd Gantt shook
things up and changed course. The new
strategy worked as Ragsdale and Johnsen
won both of their matches. Ham/Bolt,
           Cecchini/Kelly, and Ramsey/Keister also
           won while Jeffreys/Lisenbee halved both
their matches as did the Binion/Weigand
team. At the end of the day, 2 the East had

fought back and now trailed by only two
points. Of particular note, was the first-
ever protest lodged in East-West history.
The West players, Weber and Howard,
protested the legality of switching tee balls
by East players Ham & Bolk. Tempers ran
high! A lively discussion ensued, requiring
           an intervention by KMGA President
Reynolds to calm the metaphorical waters.
The matter was referred to the
           Tournament Committee for adjudication.
The protest was eventually denied as the Victorious West Team
East deemed this “tricky” move was legal.
