he will be searching into the feasibility of the Lodge creating a 501 (c) 3 IRS standing for our Scholarship program. A possible benefit could be increased dol- lars for scholarships through employer matching programs.
Mike and Kathi Butorac will be our delegates for the Grand Lodge of the Northwest Convention in May. Mike has thrown his hat in the ring and will run for one of the Grand Lodge Vice- President positions.
In closing and for the good of the order, Lodge Vice-President Mike Butorac thanked his wife Kathi and Jeannie Pre- cious for their hard work on our Spa- ghetti Dinner in March. Jeannie alone sold over 110 tickets to the event. Meeting on May 16th, Cle Elum Lodge members hit the ground running with Papa Murphy Pizza, homemade salads and desserts, and business to finalize. President Cheryl Ficele opened the business meeting which covered finan- cial report and audit, cemetery cleanup, GLNW Lottery Calendars, Italian Memorial Dedication duties, Scholar- ship selections, June picnic preferences, Mushroom Contest, and Pioneer Days Parade.
Kathi Butorac presented a report on
the GLNW Convention. Kathi and her husband Mike served as delegates for the lodge, and both participated in many of the activities with Kathi’s bocce team taking the championship. We were happy to learn that Mike was voted in as 4th Vice-President of the Grand Lodge. We also learned there were a few spills taken and some folks had visits to local hospitals. Our hopes and prayers are that all are now healed and healthy.
On Saturday, May 29th, following over two years of planning, fundraising,
and construction, the Cle Elum Lodge
#1968 Italian Memorial Monument was dedicated. Located in the Silvio Pellico Cemetery of the Roslyn Historical Cem- eteries in Roslyn, Washington the monu- ment is the first Italian memorial of its kind in Washington State. The Lodge extends our gratitude to the memorial committee, all our brothers and sisters in the Grand Lodge that were able to join us on this momentous day, and all of you that supported the cause financially and spiritually.
Kathi Butorac created a video of the event on YouTube.

President Patrick Jacoby welcomed our deputy Christine Volpone Gerling and her husband Mark and 20 members to our May meeting. It was a vibrant gath- ering despite our long absence. Congratulations to Brock Ricci who won reelection to the office of State Trustee for the sixth consecutive term at the recent convention. Joe Jacobin retired after 31years of service as the Director of Publications for the Grand Lodge of the Northwest. Our own Pat- rick was installed to take this position. Our thoughts and prayers go with both Brock, Joe, and Patrick as they continue to serve our Order.
Brock had some personal news to share during the Good and Welfare of the Order. His daughter Carissa Ricci and her husband Brad Schuster are expect- ing a baby boy in October. Previously, they had lost another baby boy, Canaan Anthony, who went to heaven. Brock is proud that he also has five granddaugh- ters. We wish Carissa and Brad a safe and happy delivery.
Rose Mary Baretta had cataract surgery on her each of her eyes in May. On June 16 she hopes to have her final doctor visit. We pray she continues to heal and experience excellent vision.
The membership voted to postpone any new activities for the present time until the climate is better for getting people to come out to participate. We look for- ward to a fun and amicable future. Until the next issue,

Summer has arrived and if you have been vaccinated it appears that we might not have to wear masks all the time. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we stay on the upswing of our COVID battle.
It was nice to have a live meeting in June. This is when the women take over the kitchen and give the father’s a break. The meeting started with Jeff D’Amelio leading the Ritual for Deceased mem- bers to honor our Brother James Severi- no who passed away on April 26, 2021. March 13, 1985, was the night Jim was initiated into Seattle # 1390. Al Mar- tiniello was his sponsor and President Mike Malaspino initiated him into the Order. That same night I initiated Shir- ley Severino into Fedele # 1469. Ethel Martiniello was her sponsor. If I recall correctly they had met because they both had children attending the same school. When Jim made vendor stops at the
UW he always stopped by my office to chat. He was a dedicated member of the Order and served as our State President as well as our National Trustee. May he rest in peace.
Rose Winterhalder recently returned from a visit to the New England area of our great country. . She enjoyed a meal
