I was 23 and Nadine was 20. Before retiring I worked as a highway engineer for the State of Washington for 28 years. Nadine worked about 15 years on and off. We have two sons and a daughter who live near us in the Kent area.
I would like to pay tribute to the Italian dairy farmers that were actively dairy- ing in the Enumclaw area when we were dairy farming. The family names were Ballestrasse,
Capponi,
Condotta,
Fantello, Gi-
glioni, Malat-
esta, Marietti,
Primton, and
Rocca. They
were hard-working people. Some were retired, but their descendants were ac- tive. They are deserving of respect.
We Italians were a minority in the Enumclaw community which was principally Scandinavian with a large segment of Slavic people. There was a smattering of practically every national- ity in Enumclaw as the immigrants came from everywhere for the logging, mill, and mine work. Then they branched out into farming and other endeavors—the typical history of Small Town, U.S.A. Written by Joseph A. Silvestri on May

An additional fun tribute to “Joe/Joe” that our new Editor-in-Chief Patrick Jacoby discovered in the files of the Northwest Italian News to honor the retirement of our former (and famous) Editor-in-Chief Joe Jacobin and our beloved Joe Silvestri (Rolling Romans
traveling partners). -Marlene

Ciao tutti
The convention is over and we move along to more activities. Hopefully, things will soon become more normal
everyone. Bill and Jackie Haberstock supplied our dinner with great spaghetti and meatballs. There was also bread supplied by Steve Lebeda and cake sup- plied by Bill and Jackie as well.
At this time we are in need of 2 Trustees and a Mistress or Master of Ceremonies. We also need a member to volunteer
to head up the sunshine committee and a volunteer to act as chaplain. Social members may now serve in these posi- tions as well.
In June we are looking forward to in- stalling new members Janine and Robert Paul. Welcome to our lodge!
Another member has indicated they will be moving to Washington D.C. to be near family members. We have seen so many changes since the pandemic hit is all. It is sad to see Mary De Santis leave but it is also understandable.
Currently “Let’s Do Lunch” is still on hold until we see where we are as far as restaurants etc. and the continuance of restrictions.
Congratulations to Marilisa Herndon who is now a Trustee for GLNW and also to Lenny Fellino as 2nd vice presi- dent for GLNW.
June the 16th will be our next live meeting. The same schedule that was announced for May’s meeting will continue through the June meeting as follows: 5:30 – 6:00 is the social half- hour, 6:00 to 7:00 is the dinner, and 7:00 – 8:00 the meeting will be held. Joe Clementi volunteered to be the chef of the month for June. Details will be available in our newsletter as we are still not able to have pot lucks. We are also now ready to encourage others to participate in chef of the month. YES,
as coronavirus begins diminishing.
I
heard several people had some medi- cal issues that had nothing to do with coronavirus. We hope all are feeling better now.
Bill Haberstock was the King of Lemon Cello at this year’s convention. There were 12 entrants for 2 categories and Bill came in first on both counts. Actu- ally, four participants placed in the com- petition. They were Bill, Dan Chicketti, Debbie Sonstelie, and, her daughter,
and Lina Gagnon. (I hope I got every- one’s names correctly). Bill’s recipe for cream limoncello was Lanetta Yanity’s recipe available in “The Soul of Italy” produced by the Grand Lodge of the Northwest
On May 19th Cataldo Lodge held its first indoor all
members meeting.
Thank you to all
who joined together for this meeting. It was great to see
