                                                                                                                     Biotechnology Industry Research Council
                                                                                                                     (BIRAC) a public sector enterprise set up by
                                                                                                                     the Department of Biotechnology (DBT),
                                                                                                                     through its COVID-19 research consortium
                                                                                                                     after competitive evaluation has agreed
                                                                                                                     to fund the university and its partners to
                                                                                                                     develop a low-cost completely indigenous
                                                                                                                     test for SARS COV2 antibody testing, which
                                                                                                                     can be used for large scale screening of
                                                                                                                     pandemic population.
                                                                                                                     Dr Gaurav Pandey from GGSIP University,
                                                                                                                     Dr Anurag Rathore from Indian Institute
                                                                                                                     of Technology, Delhi and Mr Prateek Mittal
                                                                                                                     from Medsource Ozone forms a translational
                                                                                                                     team which will develop a scalable process to
                                                                                                                     produce the required antigens components
                                                                                                                     and manufacture the point of care lateral
                                                                                                                     flow immunoassay (LFIA) device. The LFIA
                                                                                                                     test provides the results in maximum 15-20
                                                                                                                     minutes and is almost resource independent.
                                                                                                                     It doesn’t require high-end equipments
                                                                                                                     and can be used in remote settings too.

            National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 every year to commemorate the discovery
            of the ‘Raman Effect.’ Padma Shri Prof. Mahesh Verma, the Vice-Chancellor of the University,
            was awarded for his outstanding contribution in the field of science, especially health sciences
            at a grand function organized at the Vigyan Bhawan. The award was given by the President of
            India Ram Nath Kovid. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Science & Technology, Health and
            Family Welfare and Earth Sciences was also present on the occasion. Prof. Verma is a recipient
            of a number of coveted national and international awards for his remarkable works in the field
            of health sciences. The programme was organized by the Department of Science and Technology
            (DST), Government of India. The awards on the occasion were given to stimulate, encourage
            and recognize outstanding efforts in the area of science and technology for popularization,
            communication and promoting scientific temper.
