Yogi T. Krishnamachar Yoga for Schools Pratishthan – A Lifelong Mission by Adhiyogi
In the year 2010, Adhiyogi launched a visionary project titled "Yogi T. Krishnamachar Yoga for Schools Pratishthan", inspired by the life and work of the legendary Yogi Prof. T. Krishnamachar of Mysore/Chennai, India. Although Adhiyogi never met Prof. Krishnamachar in person, his studies under Guruji BKS Iyengar had introduced him to the great yogi’s name and legacy. A visit to the very room where Prof. Krishnamachar once taught luminaries such as BKS Iyengar, Pathabi Jois, and BNS Iyengar left a profound mark on him.
Upon reading Prof. Krishnamachar’s biography, Adhiyogi realized that while the great master had contributed enormously to the world of yoga, his mission to bring yoga into schools had been only partially fulfilled. Determined to continue and expand upon this vision, Adhiyogi decided to dedicate a portion of his own life’s work to bringing authentic yoga into schools— both in India and internationally—regardless of whether the work was paid or voluntary.
Thus began a lifelong journey. From the outset, Adhiyogi sought blessings from his teachers Prashant and BKS Iyengar. He also drew inspiration from his very first yoga teacher, Pandit Balakrishna Sharma, and prayed for the blessings of his father, Vinayak Kulkarni, whom he credits as the root cause of his yoga journey.
Over the years, the Yoga for Schools Pratishthan project has touched numerous institutions, extending its reach not only to children but also to disadvantaged adults. The program combines physical yoga, meditation, stress relief techniques, behavioral guidance, and study skills, nurturing focus, discipline, and personal development in students. Many schools, particularly those serving financially disadvantaged communities, have reported remarkable improvements in student behavior, academic performance, and emotional well-being because of his training.
Adhiyogi’s approach is deeply rooted in authenticity and personal connection, with the belief that yoga is not just a set of physical postures but a holistic system for developing clarity, compassion, and self-awareness. His work has crossed borders, taking this mission to schools outside India as well, planting seeds of self-discipline and inner peace across cultures.
Today, the Yogi T. Krishnamachar Yoga for Schools Pratishthan stands as a testament to carrying forward the unfulfilled part of a master’s dream. Adhiyogi continues this mission with the same enthusiasm and sincerity as the day it began—grateful for the blessings of his teachers, family, students, and friends who have supported this noble journey.
OM Shantiḥ.
