Page 34 - What is the Squad List?
P. 34

If you’ve made the right selections, this should be easy, but like anything, you need to keep an eye on it.
There are really three important questions to ask.
1.Is it doing what I want it to do? Don’t forget your circumstances may change, for example, dividends may not be important when you set it up, but they’re now very relevant to you.
2.If it’s not doing what I want it to do, which part(s) do I need to change? 3.What changes do I need to make? If you’re making changes then you can refer to the Squad List and perhaps make a selection from that
which works for you.
It’s important to remember that companies change, and what may be suitable for your portfolio today may not be a good fit tomorrow. For example, a forward could be taken over by a large company (e.g., a defender), and it may no longer be appropriate to classify it in that position.
I also provide website details for each company in my Squad List so you can take a look at the relevant website for your own investments and see if there’s been any major news that impacts your investment decision. As all companies are different, it’s difficult to point out any particular thing you should look out for. Still, if you’re a beginner, I’d perhaps pick one particular reason why you invested and see if there’s any news that changes that. For example, if you invested for dividends and there’s an announcement that they’re suspending their dividend policy, your rationale for investing may no longer hold true.
Although we can chat about it on our call, when you buy the Squad List you also get a breakdown of which companies currently pay a dividend and those with and without a resource at the moment, this can be particularly helpful when picking your forwards. The bottom line is you can’t control what happens in the markets, but you CAN control how you build your portfolio.
