This is so because people with OCD like their environment a certain way and anything that can trigger that will make them upset. People with anxiety disorders would panic if they hear a sound they don’t like and may lead to an asthma attack or something else just as serious.
How to know if you have misophonia?
It’s pretty easy to figure out if you have misophonia or not.One way i think you could figure out if you have misophonia is by searching up sounds that are typically annoying to other people. Then, listen to those sounds and see if you react to it in any way. One of the sounds that would really tell you if you have misophonia is nails on a chalkboard. So, if you're not sure if you have misophonia, you should try it. You can also be tested to see if you have misophonia. Just visit an Audiologist and have them measure the volume at which sound becomes painful to you. Another thing you can do is listen to music and put it on full volume. If the sound is sensitive to your ears, then you know you have misophonia.
Treatments for misophonia?
There is medication that is used or can be used to treat misophonia. There is only one possible option to try to get rid of it. It’s called tinnitus retraining therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. This way they can make that sound that’s annoying to you, a little easier to endure. You can also try self-care treatments. This comes with avoiding sounds that may irritate you, exercising 5 days a week, and getting enough sleep. After that, there is no possible way you can get rid of misophonia other than avoiding the sounds that triggers it.
In conclusion, for anyone that has misophonia, you're not alone. There are many other individuals going through what you're going through. You just have to remember to ignore those sounds that are giving you a rough time. You could go talk to someone about it and maybe they could help. Also, working out could maybe take your mind off of it and blow off some steam. In addition, if you're ever in a position when you can’t block out the noise, you should buy noise canceling headphones prior to that happening.
