childhood setting.
Topic 3 focuses on an early childhood space for infants and toddlers. This topic emphasises the importance of touch and movement in the infant and toddler environment. The differences between infant and toddler floor plans are also explained in this topic.
Topic 4 dwells on the importance of incorporating an environmental context that accepts diversity and supports childrenÊs natural tendency for inquisitiveness. The topic also discusses suitable floor plans for a preschool setting.
Topic 5 lists the standard measurements of quality environment in early childhood education (ECE), such as Infant and Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS), Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales (ECERS), Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale (FCCERS) and School Age Care Environment Rating Scales (SACERS). The differences and strengths for each rating scale are discussed in this topic.
Topic 6 provides an overview of what quality physical layout means in the context of ECE. Quality layout also considers cost effectiveness as well as long term maintenance.
Topic 7 describes the setting up of the learning environment for young children and the factors that need to be considered.
Topic 8 describes the requirement for quality basic care environment for an ECE setting. Early childhood educators play an important role towards incorporating appropriate practices based on childrenÊs strengths and needs, knowledge of the current child development and understanding of how children learn, in a proper environment and atmosphere.
Topic 9 considers the importance of outdoor life for children, with discussions centred on how to plan outdoor areas that developmentally appropriate and to maintain the outdoor areas so that they are safe and hazard-free.
Topic 10 elaborates on the importance of setting up areas specifically for parents and staff within an early childhood setting.
