By the end of this topic, you should be able to:
1. List the elements of quality physical layout and the sites for early childhood settings;
2. Describe the elements of quality interior of an early childhood environment; and
3. Discuss the characteristics of good interior designs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers classrooms.
 INTRODUCTION
One of the most essential contributing factors of young childrenÊs well-being, happiness, creativity and independence is the physical environment of their learning space. That, in turn, will determine the quality of the childrenÊs learning and experiences. It is imperative that young children are provided with well- designed environments that support their needs and thus, stimulate their learning. In the same manner, teachers and instructors who spend their days teaching and caring for young children deserve an equally suitable environment that can optimise their skills.
6.1 THE BUILDING AND SITES
The physical environment is a place where young children and staff spend many hours each day; where routine needs are met; where relationships are developed between children and teachers, skills are learned, abilities are enhanced and
