Electrical outlets and cords
Electrical outlets accessible to children must always be covered. Electrical cords should be in good condition and are placed beyond childrenÊs reach.
Sign-in and sign-out log book
Anyone who drops off or picks up a child from the centre must sign his or her full name and record the time of day the child is dropped off or picked up. The name of the person who picks up the child must be on file in the record. This ensures that the child leaves the centre only with their parent or the parentsÊ authorised representative.
Install outside security cameras
Install security cameras outside that transmit pictures into the centre or in the hand phone. This would allow staff to know who is about to enter the centre.
Separate areas for infants and toddlers
To avoid injuries inside the building infants and toddlers are expected to have a separate play area from preschool children. This helps infants and toddlers to move about and explore their environment without any hesitation.
Staff-child ratio
Always ensure staff-child ratios and other adults available are sufficient to adequately supervise the children in care. These adults are also responsible for protecting the children in an emergency.
Outdoor area
The outdoor area should be fully fenced with adequate height, and gates or doors should be appropriately locked.
