TOPIC 2 DIMENSIONS OF YOUNG CHILDREN’S SETTING
29
(b) Dramatic Play Area
This area (see Figure 2.3) will provide children opportunities to role play using their imagination and pretend to be adults or other objects in everyday situations. Dramatic play with props encourages children to express themselves and develop their creativity. Through dramatic play, children learn about things and people around them. They also develop their language and communication skills while interacting with peers through expressive dramatic play. Most young children are egocentric, meaning they have difficulty seeing othersÊ point of view. Through dramatic play, children learn how to understand others and use different kind of language to express themselves according to the situation.

(c) Music and Movement Area
This area (see Figure 2.4) provides children with opportunities to be physically active and experience different types of music and sounds. Children learn to express themselves through creativity and movement in the music and movement area. Musical instruments and movement props aid creativity expression and provide children with fun and meaningful learning experience. When children enjoy moving around with music, their physical development is enhanced.
