• An early childhood environment is not only the space for children to move and be engaged in activities, it also enhances childrenÊs development when it is designed with their needs and interests in mind.
• In child-centred environments, children are encouraged to make their own choices and given the opportunity to select their own activities. They are encouraged to choose from a range of developmentally appropriate materials.
• Some important aspects needed in early childhood environmental settings are developmentally appropriate materials, opportunities for concrete physical activities, and a variety of stimulation, colours and decorations.
• Environmental setting that meets childrenÊs needs offer rich experiences in play, in learning, offers a place where children feel like they belong, a place where children feel valued and have privacy and social space.
• Healthy early childhood environments should have the emergency contact numbers of parents and authorised doctors, first aid kits; materials and toys used must be nontoxic, lead free and sanitised regularly, and floors, walls and windows and other important areas should be regularly cleaned, and have separate areas for washing and disposable of diapers.
