2.4.2 Outdoor Environment
Outdoor activities have an important role in young childrenÊs health and wellness. It is associated with greater amounts of physical activity in children and involves their whole body exercise. Therefore, early childhood setting should provide a safe and developmentally appropriate outdoor environment where children can increase their physical development. Like the indoor environment, outdoor environment should be designed according to the unique development of young children. This environment (see Figures 2.8 and 2.9) should have components that include materials such as toys, swing sets, riding vehicles, plants, sand and water play where children can engage in social interaction during outdoor activity.
