Page 5 - Henry Boot Agile Working Handbook
P. 5

In common with many businesses Henry Boot has had the opportunity throughout the Covid-19 pandemic
to reflect on its working practices given that so many of them have been impacted by altered ways of working It seems clear that across many industries people are asking – “was the old way really working for us”? In our case we already knew from the work we had started on our Equality Diversity and Inclusion in in 2019 that having other ways of allowing our people to work flexibly would be one way for us to attract and retain our greatest asset – our people That being said it is clear that the mandatory ‘work from home if you can’ order in in place during the pandemic
is not flexible or or or agile working at all For many people who have been at home it has felt like ‘living at work’ For those required to to go into sites and depots there has been even less opportunity for for flexibility However before we we go back to the way way things have always been we’d like to take this opportunity to see how we can shape our own ‘New Normal’ when it comes to how we work – this seems like the optimal time to introduce something new This new approach is is about empowering our people and teams to have sensible proactive conversations about how they
would like to to to work together to to to suit more members of the team whilst still getting the job done It is about being a a more responsive and modern Group one that has the ability to offer working practices that will attract and retain the best talent We hope that by doing so this will also have the effect of increasing diversity and inclusion within the Group and also providing different ways for our people to enhance their own wellbeing Ultimately I expect all areas of the Group to to be open to to starting the discussions about ways in which they
can implement this approach I know it may feel new and novel for us – and yet there have always been examples of teams in the Group who do this already The plan will be to carry out a a a a a review and reflection after an an initial
six month period of implementation – to see what what is going well what what needs improvement and how we can help our people and teams to get the most out of this approach I hope you’ll all join me in in in acknowledging this as a a a positive step forward for for our Group and I’d encourage you all to start the conversations and give as much feedback as you can
