“AACC was such an opportunity. I want to make sure that students today have the financial resources needed to pursue their academic and career goals.”
Student Scholarship Spotlights
Olumide
Fagboyegun
Olumide Fagboyegun didn’t plan on moving
to Maryland from Nigeria at age 15, but to his surprise, it was one of the best decisions he
ever made. After two years of high school in Maryland, Fagboyegun’s journey brought him to AACC where he excelled academically. “It would be an understatement to say that AACC has not had a profound impact on
my outlook on life, on my ideology, and on both my professional and personal life,” Olumide said in his Valedictorian speech during the 2018 Commencement.
Olumide owes part of his success to the Science Division Scholarship that he received this past year.
“I can now certainly feel relieved to finish this semester without having to look elsewhere for another part-time job or supplemental income.” Like Olumide, many AACC students have to work one or multiple jobs to afford college on top of their day-to-day bills. Thanks to the generosity of scholarship donors, Olumide was able to graduate as AACC’s Valedictorian and plans to continue his education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Chris
Swift
“The one question on my mind when preparing for college was how am I going to afford this?” wondered A ACC alumnus, Chris
Swift. Working full time and attending school, Chris was awarded the Anna and John Dragun Memorial Scholarship. “It’s difficult for me to put
it into words how much this means to me, as I’m a first-generation college student and I never thought that I would have the support of such incredibly generous people,” Swift said.
Chris also credits some of the people he met along the way as part of his success. “Thinking back on my last few years at AACC, I have stayed motivated because I made so many amazing connections with classmates and other people. I had so many people helping me on my journey at AACC.” And Chris did complete his journey. He graduated this past spring and plans to attend the University of Maryland College Park in the fall to continue his education.
