Working in PaaS environments, the client develops the application

code and owns the application data but has no real control over

how the infrastructure works. There is no control over how and

where data is stored. No control over firewalls, no control over

middleware etc. PaaS can be a very powerful platform for rapid

application development without needing too much understanding

of the underlying infrastructure but cloud providers charge for PaaS

services and the more you build on PaaS the more you are locked

in to the cloud platform.
