Services Impact on IT

Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) was the precursor of microservices

architecture. SOA took great advantage of the reducing cost of x86 servers.
Microservices Architecture MSA takes advantage of Virtual Machines and is a

                                                      driver of Virtual Machine consumption.

The opportunity for parallel development creates a need for more software
                                                                     skills and scripting skills.

Because functions are broken down into services, fixes and updates come more
frequently but as they need to be tested against other services, this can lead

to more frequent deployments, requiring more agility in operations, and more
                                                         resource tied to test environments.

The ability to build a test environment quickly and then tear it down again when

it is no longer needed is essential in this fast paced world.

The need for services to talk to each other can have significant impact on
network requirements, especially when used together with workload balancing
                                                                      and workload migration.
