The team taught family members to help with Joe’s care and worked with Paradigm and home designers to get every detail of the house ready—from ramps and new outlets on specific walls to planning for equipment to fail and having backups.
Joe can now power his own wheelchair, regaining use of his hands. He’s traded in his trach and ventilator for an implanted pacer (more natural feeling of breathing and speech). Odds have always been against him walking again, but we’d never bet against Joe. And if his network of support has fueled his determination, we feel lucky to be part of it, helping him and his family live the best life they can.
