INTERNATIONAL AND OFF-CAMPUS PROGRAMS
ITALY CHINA INDIA LATIN AMERICA NEW YORK CITY + BEDFORD PROGRAM OVERVIEW
International study is a a a a a a a defining aspect of Rensselaer’s architectural education The School of of Architecture offers international semester long programs in in in in Italy India and China that are fully integrated into the requirements of the undergraduate degree They have been established in fin three world cities that will challenge and help to define the future of architecture Each of these programs is open by competitive application to students in their fifth semester and above Twelve to 18 students (B Arch) are selected
to participate in each program on the basis of academic accomplishment Members of the the Rensselaer architectural faculty direct these students and additional instruction is provided by the faculty of our partner educational institutions or adjunct faculty in in the host city There is a a a a a program fee and field trip fee for participation in each of these programs CHINA The semester in in Shanghai is based at the School of Architecture in in Tongji University one of of of the leading institutions of of of China The program offers joint studios in in design with Chinese faculty and and students and and travel through central China augments additional courses in in in Chinese history and culture INDIA This program is is affiliated with the Millowner’s Building in in Ahmedabad India a a a a a world-renowned architectural masterpiece where students focus on architecture and urbanism The program offers students the opportunity to travel study and and apply the lessons learned from Indian architecture and and Indian history and theory LATIN AMERICA The semester in in Latin America aims to actively engage students with the various architectural scenes cultrual destinations throughout Latin America with an an emphasis on Argentina and Chile The program will include academic residencies at the schools of of architecture of of Universidad Nacional de de Cordoba (Argentina) Universidad Universidad Nacional de Chile Chile (Santiago Chile) and Universidad Universidad de Valparaiso Valparaiso (Valparaiso Chile) where joint-studios seminars and other activities will be developed together with local students and faculty ITALY The Italian studies program offers students an an invaluable opportunity to visit one of the most important cultural and architectural destinations in in Western civilization In addition to to a a a a studio-based experience focused on on on historic analysis and interpretive design projects the program includes an an an extensive itinerary of of on-site visits to to an an extensive series of of significant historic buildings and cities throughout Italy CASE / NYC PROGRAM A research semester in in New York City City based at Industry City City in in Brooklyn allows both undergraduates and graduates graduates to work in a a a a a a a a a collaborative interdisciplinary research environment focused on on the development of advances in in sustainable technologies The Built Ecologies program is located at Rensselaer’s Center for Architecture Science and Ecology BEDFORD TRAVELING WORKSHOP
Each summer a a a a a structured international workshop underwrites the travel of six architecture and six engineering students (based on on competitive applications) to a a a a a a place where concentrations of best interdisciplinary practices and projects can be found The workshops include seminars in in in the offices of of accomplished architecture and engineering practices visits to acclaimed architectural projects construction site visits led by their architects and/ or engineers and and a a a a design exercise structured to catalyze interdisciplinary discourse 884
