                 1.1.3. Cut down for development

Widespread development has caused most of the mangrove swamps in our country to be destroyed and has
caused pollution in the environment and the livelihoods of fishermen who depend on mangrove swamp
resources have been threatened. His catch has declined to 60 per cent over the past three years due to sand
dredging activities and development around the coast. In Indonesia, Indonesia's mangrove swamp forest plays
an important role in the world. 15.2 million hectares of mangrove forests in 124 tropical and subtropical
countries, 21 percent of which are in Indonesia. In Malaysia between 1980–1990 an estimated 12 percent of
mangrove forests were lost, while in Johor from 1955–1998 alone about 46 percent of mangrove forests were
                 destroyed.

             1.2. Objective

The objectives of this study are:

                    i. To evaluate the mangrove fiber as reinforced material in composite board.
ii. To determine the mechanical and physical properties of mangrove particle board.

             1.3. Scope

The scopes of this study are:
                    i. Using epoxy and hardener as matrix and mangrove fiber as reinforced material.
ii. Produce mangrove fiber composite board with epoxy resin in weight ratio (% weight) from 0%
                        weight 100%.
iii. To determine the mechanical properties of mangrove fiber composites as tensile, flextural and
                        impact
1.3.1. Quantity of epoxy resin (600gm) and mangrove particle

                               3 40% (240g) + 10%(60g) 50% (300g)

1.4. The importance of the study

Studies conducted in several interests. Among them are:
                       i. Ensure the effectiveness of the use of mangrove fiber and epoxy.
ii. Ensure the resistance of materials to destructive ecosystems such as forests.
iii. Save on the use of materials in construction and furniture.
iv. Foster the community to be wise in choosing custom wood in construction and furniture.
