have and have got



                                I have (something) or I've got (something) = it is  mine:

                                       0  I have a new car.  or  I've got a new car.

                                       0  Sue has long hair.  or  Sue has got long hair.

                                       0  Do they have any children?  or  Have they got any children?


                                       0  Tom doesn't have a job.  or  Tom hasn't got a job.

                                       O  日 ow much time do you have?  or  日 ow much time have you got?



                                also


                                  I have             a headache / (a) toothache / a pain (in  my leg etc.)

                                  |'ve got }         a cold / a cough / a sore throat / a temperature / Au  etc.

                                               I have a headache.  or  I've got a headache.


                                               Do you have a cold?  or  Have you got a cold?


                                The past is  I had (without got) / I didn't have / Did you have? etc. :


                                       0  When I first met Sue, she had short hair.

                                       0  He didn't have any money because he didn't have a job.

                                       0  Did you have enough time to do everything you wanted?




                                have breakfast / have a shower etc.



                                In  these expressions have = eat/drink/take etc.  You can't use 'have got'.

                                               a meal / a sandwich / a pizza  etc.                                     I don't usual ly  have breakfast.

                                We also use have (not have got) in  these expressions:

                                                                                                                             We're having a party next week.  You must come.
                                               a nice time / a good trip / fun  etc.
                                                                                                                              Enjoy your holiday.  Have a nice time!
                                  have  a walk / a swim / a game (of tennis etc.)
                                                                                                                              Did you have a good time in Tokyo?
                                               a dream / an accident
                                                                                                                             Sandra has j ust had a baby.
                                               a baby
                                                                                                                             Can I have a look at your magazine?
                                               a look (at something)
