GRADE Strenuous. For experienced walkers with a good level of fitness. Waterproof clothing, walking boots and map reading skills essential.
 WALK 28km/18 miles
 ASCENT 965m/3,170ft
 TIME 8 hours
TERRAIN Open moorland, mainly good paths but some eroded, boggy and rocky sections, quiet roads at the beginning and end. 9 stiles.
A superb challenge walk along two of the Black Mountain ridges high above the Grwyne Fechan valley. A stiff ascent at the start, then striding out along the tops for most of the day with wonderful views. Can be cold and breezy with changeable weather. Be prepared!
From Llanbedr church A , go E along the drive which becomes a rough path leading steeply down to the bridge over the Grwyne Fechan. Cross the stile at the far side of the bridge and take the zig-zag path climbing steeply. After 50m go left and follow the path steeply up to a quiet road. Turn left along the road for 5 minutes, then take the grassy ascending path on the right opposite some barns in the field below the road.
Follow the path up, straight on at the big beech tree to a gate with open moorland beyond. Take the path up the edge of the wood and swing with it to the right round the end of the wood.
