  Welcome to Crickhowell!
Croeso i Crug Hywel!
You’ll find a warm and friendly welcome when you visit
Crickhowell. It’s been popular for a long time, as the Iron Age
fort on the top of Table Mountain shows. Start at the local
Resource and Information Centre (CRiC). Housing an internet
café and an enviable art and craft gallery, CRiC has excellent
information for exploring the area - be it on foot, by bike, on horse or by boat. It’s on Beaufort Street just by the town car park and public toilets.
Then explore the historic town, with fine buildings to discover from the Medieval, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods. Look out for Clarence Hall, St Edmund’s Church and the Market Hall in particular and remember to climb the green tump – the remnants of Crickhowell’s motte and bailey castle. Built by the Normans in the 12th century, it was destroyed by Owain Glyndwr’s forces around 300 years later.
Crickhowell boasts a colourful, thriving High Street with independently owned and family-run shops where you’ll find a friendly, personal touch and plenty of local produce. Indulge yourself in our award winning pubs, restaurants and comfortable, quality accommodation, which make Crickhowell an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. Right on our doorstep is the World Heritage town of Blaenavon, a medieval mansion house at Tretower, Europe’s largest underground cave network and the entire panoramic splendour of the Brecon Beacons just waiting for you!
Enjoy your stay here. You'll be inspired by your walking adventures, return home relaxed and rejuvenated – and start planning your next visit!
