 Walk 1 Bwlch & The Beacons Way
 A peaceful walk with mountain solitude

 WALK 15.5km/10 miles
 ASCENT 560m/1850ft
 TIME 5-6 hours
 TERRAIN Quiet roads, fields, open moorland, easy stream crossings, sometimes muddy. Summer bracken can obscure the Beacons Way path. 10 stiles.
 REFRESHMENTS The Farmers Arms and The Mynydd Ddu tea room on the main road in Cwmdu.
 BUS Take the Brecon bound bus from Crickhowell to Bwlch (New Inn); Caution! Only X43 buses go via Bwlch: Bus route 43 goes via Llangynidr.
A quiet road then pretty pastures to Cwmdu, a steady ascent to skirt open mountainside along the Beacons Way then an easy descent to Crickhowell.
FromTheNewInnBwlch A walkNEdownthemainroadtothebigbendandgoleftalong Tregraig Road past all the houses. At the end of the road at Tre-graig Farm go straight on, passing to the left of the barns to reach the first of several fields, some with stiles, some with gates.
Follow the waymarks generally NE. Towards the end of the succession of fields, you reach a small wooded area and a junction of two streams. Cross both streams near a small pond with timber shed at the far side, then go E across a field to cross another stream and line of trees at a gate.
