In recent seasons Llandovery RFC 1st XV has established itself to be one of the strongest teams
in the Welsh club game consistently challenging for the league title and winning the National Cup competition twice in recent years. We pride ourselves on achieving our success whilst playing an attractive brand of winning rugby that is always entertaining to watch. Our televised games have showcased our philosophy to rugby fans across Wales; with some TV pundits even comparing our style and flair to that of Fiji. As well as being one of the top club sides in Wales we pride ourselves on developing players who go to play at the highest level including Wales and the British and Irish Lions.
Drovers Second XV
Llandovery RFC Second XV is undoubtedly the heartbeat of our club. A team of local boys, the majority of whom are old time graduates of the early day Junior Drovers and with an age profile of 19-40 plus we continue to enjoy success. The team play with the same attacking philosophy as the first XV and have been rewarded with great success in recent seasons including a close-fought victory against strong local rivals , the Carmarthen Druids at Parc-y-Scarlets which saw us return home to Church Bank proudly bearing the Castell Howell Plate.
Despite challenges securing regula opposition the team has continued to flourish due to the pure grit, determination and loyalty of players new and old including those who have come out of retirement. Next season we will be participating in the newly formed Scarlets Regional League. All players, old, new and returning are warmly welcomed.
Youth XV
The Youth XV continue to be the lifeblood of the club producing rounded young men who go on to play rugby at all levels across the country.
The Youth team continues to achieve great
success on the field and has in recent seasons won the East Carmarthenshire league and the East Carmarthenshire Cup for the 3rd successive season. We are incredibly proud of the youth and the experience and values we can teach them which we believe hold them in good stead both on and off the field and in their future life’s.
Junior Drovers
The Junior Drovers were established in 1992 and since them the junior section has gone from strength to strength and underpins our credentials as a club who has the community at its very heart. The Junior section offers rugby for all age groups and its success is down to the junior committee and coaches and parents who have given up their time to help nurture our youngsters, with some of our juniors going on o represent Wales or the Lions - most recently Wyn Jones@
To see the pitches and club house full of kids on a Sunday morning with many ex-players now coaching is afantasticsightandoneforthewhichtheclubare extremely proud.
