CROESO WELCOME
I am writing to you on behalf of players and supporters of Llandovery RFC regarding sponsorship and advertising
opportunities for the upcoming season.
As way of background, Llandovery is a small rural market town situated between the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains. We have a unique rugby history, as our rugby club was a founding member of the Welsh Rugby Union and we continue to provide a pathway for young people to engage and develop in our (Welsh) national game.
In addition to a range of junior, youth and community teams, we are almost unique in also running a semi-professional side within the Welsh Premiership League - playing world renowned sides like Cardiff, Swansea, Llanelli, Newport etc. The Premiership is regularly covered on Welsh TV with a weekly summary on BBC Wales' "Scrum V" and regular coverage of a full live games. As a club, we are presently going through a period of sustained success, having finished 4th in the 2019 season’s Indigo Premiership as well as reaching the semi-finals of the SWALEC Cup. This success comes on the back of continued high performance in recent seasons, which has seen the club consistently finish in the top half of the league as well as winning the Welsh Cup on two occasions. To complement our on field success, the club continues to offer social and junior rugby and provides a clear pathway for players' development which has seen a number of players go on to play regional and international rugby. On top of this, our coaches and players have won a number of awards in recent seasons. We are also extremely proud that the club continues to be a focal point for the local community offering not only junior and amateur rugby but also providing a community resource for a range of other local organisations.
The ability for us as a small club from West Wales to not only compete at the highest level with the bigger clubs, but achieve this level of success as well as maintaining our community focus is not only down to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, supporters and management but is due in no small part to the ongoing support that we receive from individuals and organisations who sponsor the team.
As you can imagine as a semi-professional AND a community club we rely on sponsorship and a variety of commercial initiatives to fund our activities. With your support we would like to perhaps share with you some more details of our history, values and achievements to see whether there is scope to build a sponsorship package. To illustrate why we think you might like to partner with Llandovery we would perhaps initially identify the following features as relevant:
• We are focussed on our members and giving our young members the opportunity to live their dreams through rugby;
• Llandovery is largely a farming community producing high quality beef and sheep, our support, players and members come
from this farming community (not surprising then that our nickname is “the Drovers”!)
• The club is seen (pan Wales) as a club that is (and has been for a number of years) as "punching above its weight" having
won the Welsh national competition twice over recent years, bearing in mind that Llandovery has a population of just 2,000
whilst we would have beaten large city sides like Cardiff to win the final.
• We have a proven track record in developing young players from our community - Wyn Jones is currently playing for Wales
and has just returned from South Africa as the starting loose head for the British and Irish Lions.
• The club is seen and used as a community resource providing meeting facilities for many local organisations including our
local Young Farmers Club and other community clubs whilst also providing recycling facilities for the community and generating renewable energy amongst other entrepreneurial activities. Our role in the community was recognised by HRH the Prince of Wales when he, (on adopting Llwynywermod in the Borough of Llandovery as his only permanent residence in Wales) became our Patron. We continue to be the only rugby club that he supports through his patronage and he has visited the club on a number of occasions.
Covid 19 has affected the club in many ways, but we are extremely excited to be heading into a new season which will see regular rugby return to Church Bank. As a result of Covid, the new season will be split into a cup competition followed by a shorter league competition, but the standard of rugby will be of the highest order and we are confident that with our current squad we will once again challenge for honours. These are exciting times for the club and we have a variety of sponsorship opportunities highlighted within this booklet and I very much hope that you will come on board, support this fantastic club and joining us on our journey. As a club, we are committed to working with all our sponsors to develop a long term relationship and as such we want to ensure that you get as much benefit from the relationship as we do. Therefore, we would look at ways in which we can increase coverage of your business association with Llandovery RFC through the website, social media and mainstream media and ensure that your objectives and priorities are adequately met. I very much hope that you will be in a position to consider supporting Llandovery RFC during the 2019/20 season and I would be happy to discuss further with you at a convenient time.
Peter Rees Chairman, Llandovery RFC.
