The Future is bright - Welsh Caps for Dan Hiscocks at U16 and Cally James at U18...
BRECON RFC
MINI AND JUNIOR RUGBY
What a season it has been for Brecon RFC mini and junior section! We have over 200 children signed up this season. This is a feat that only one other club in the Heart of Wales district has achieved. There were 18 new starters in the U7's. Whilst the introduction of new players is welcomed there are still a number of age groups where numbers are low and we need to work closely with the Rugby Hub Officer to increase player participation.
Four of our U11's represented South Powys this season and a number of our U15's also represented South Powys and were part of the team winning the Dewar Bowl final against Merthyr. This was the first time South Powys has made a final in that competition. Well done to all involved. Seven of our under 16's played Regional rugby this season representing the Ospreys, Blues and Dragons. After the Regional competition Daniel Hiscocks was selected for the Wales U16 Squad and played in Bridgewater against England. This is a fantastic achievement and we wish Dan all the best for the future. Overall, these achievements make for a bright future for Brecon RFC.
The mini festival was once again very successful and well supported, with some new teams taking part. A big thanks to all who helped make this day a great success.
Our annual end of season presentation saw over 160 players attending and receiving awards from Dan Hiscocks, Wales U16s, Cally James, Wales U18s and Sam Hobbs, former Wales U20s, Dragons player and Youth coach for Newport Gwent Dragons. Dan, Cally and Sam have all come through Brecon RFC Mini and Junior section and are great role models for our Young players.
Huge thanks go out to all the coaches who give up their time week in week out to coach and develop our youngsters. Thanks also to the all the referees that help out when needed on a Sunday. We are always looking out for more coaches, referees and first aiders, so if anyone is interested please get in touch. It is impossible to run a successful section without the help of all of these volunteers and we are very grateful for their commitment and dedication.
Thanks again to everyone involved for a fantastic year and see you all for the 2017/18 season. Alan Taylor Mini and Junior Chairman

DAN HISCOCKS
On Sunday 30th April Dan Hiscocks represented Wales at U16 level against England at Bridgewater and Albion Rugby Club.
In wet and windy conditions it was the physical home side who put together a powerful and impressive display of attacking rugby which saw them exert a firm grip on the game after going behind to an early Welsh try and conversion. The home side controlled most facets of the game in the first half and then eventually run out victors by 41 – 22 despite a spirited late comeback by the Welsh side.
Dan came off the bench in the second half and played an influential role in increasing the speed and tempo at which the Welsh side played. The final 15 minutes proved to be the Welsh teams best part of the game where they finished the game strongly putting the home side under pressure. To cap off a fantastic day for Dan he crossed to score a well-deserved try.
Congratulations Dan from all at Brecon RFC and best wishes for the future.
