Gwernyfed RFC’s Head Coach Chay Billen
offers his thoughts on last season and looks forward to the new one...
GWERNYFED RFC
FROM THE TOP...
Once again we will be playing our fixtures in the Division 3A East Central league and will be welcoming some familiar faces back to Trefecca Road. We also have some ‘local’ fixtures just over the Brecon Beacons to look forward to as we welcome our ‘Breconshire brothers’ Cefn Coed into the league.
The fixture list looks good on paper with 13 of our 22 fixtures scheduled before Christmas. It would be nice, weather permitting, if we were able to finish in April, having completed a successful campaign.
We are pleased to welcome Lee Thomas as our new Team Manager. Lee is extremely enthusiastic and will help to ensure the players are fully prepared for each of the fixtures this coming season. Thank you Lee for all of the
work you have put in thus far, it really is appreciated by Danny and myself.
As a coaching and management staff we are once again blessed to be working with another of the ‘Llanfilo Mafia’ as Captain. Andrew Hill will be looking to last a bit longer than his predecessor Craig Fuller this season in a leadership role and has already been making his presence felt both on and off the field. Good luck this season Andrew.
I am a big fan of actions rather than words and ‘Hiller’ has consistently proven himself in his actions on the field over many seasons. Marriage, fatherhood and leaving his ‘twenties’ has seen him mature significantly these past few months and I am sure this quality will serve him well this season.
The first month of league fixtures looks exciting. Danny quite rightly pointed out that the squad will have ‘no baggage playing against those teams’. It’s vital that we get off to a good start, as in recent seasons, we have started the season poorly putting pressure on ourselves during the last month of fixtures.
Once again thanks for your continued support, it is appreciated by all of us!
‘Train hard, win easy’ Yours in rugby,
