Welcome to the 2017
HEREFORDSHIRE
Walking Festival
Nine days – forty two walks and one beautiful county to explore...
The Wye Valley walk is a favourite among the long distance footpaths and this year we are featuring the route through Herefordshire, divided into four sections, two on each weekend of the festival.
We’ve done the organising for you with transport included in the ticket and there is an accommodation package available if you are coming from further afield.
This is the year to explore our history and heritage particularly through some of the 235 churches in the county to choose from. We feature two isolated churches in the Golden Valley, two in the area of Llangarron, each illustrating a different era in their village and four in the far north west, with time to explore their history and architecture.
Old favourites and new ideas. Archaeologists are looking at Credenhill Park Wood and the second largest Iron Age Hillfort in Britain and, further west, the famed Cefn Ridge and Craswall Priory; Kilvert Country is examined with readings along the way; cider is celebrated from apple to museum and again at a Solstice Cider Supper walk;
see the Solstice sunrise from Garway Hill; two leg-stretchers with the Viking Challenge and a lovely, if strenuous, walk up to the high point of Ingleborough; join James for another chance to explore Homme House and Parkland or, wearing his bat hat, to listen to their calls around orchard and church in Bodenham – we could go on!
Come and join us to enjoy the lovely countryside and local produce for which Herefordshire is renowned, in the care and company of friends.
Our sincere thanks go to all who lead, back-up and work together voluntarily to make the Herefordshire Walking Festival the success it has achieved in the sixteen years since its inception and to Steve and Sue Dennis for their important contribution to its future...
