The Golden Valley is a beautiful part of the county, offering extensive views with the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons providing great backdrops.
The River Dore “The river of Gold” rises in the foothills of the Black Mountains and flows through the Golden Valley for 12 miles through the villages of Dorstone, Peterchurch, Vowchurch, Abbey Dore and Pontrilas before reaching the Monnow, which then flows into the River Wye at Monmouth. All the villages of the Golden Valley are a delight to explore, with some fantastic walking routes where you can take in the sights, make the occasional historic stop-off and enjoy the welcome of
a country pub.
Grazing Herefordshire cattle in lush pastures and rich meadows, the 5,000 year old Arthur’s Stone and the long distance Offa’s Dyke all provide stunning scenery.
