DAY TWO
Morning Travel back alongside the fifth largest river in the UK, the River Wye until we reach the world famous town of Hay on Wye. Hay hosts an annual Festival of Literature each year in early summer. We follow the Wye through Kilverts Diary country at Bredwardine, then to Moccas with an ancient deer park and venerable oaks. Reaching the ancient Cathedral city of Hereford there is free time available for lunch and sightseeing, so take time to visit the Cathedral, a town walking tour, or follow the Wye Valley footpath.
Afternoon Head north to visit Hampton Court Castle near Leominster, then towards the War of the Roses battlefield. Here a series of battles were fought in medieval England from 1455 to 1485 between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. Then travel via Croft Castle and Richards Castle before reaching your final stop of the day, Ludlow. Stay overnight in Ludlow and either travel home the following day or allocate free time to explore one of the most attractive towns in England, with more than its fair share of good food outlets and things to do.
LUDLOW TRAVEL TIP
If travelling on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of every month from 9:00am until 2:00pm, visit the twice-monthly farmers' market held in Ludlow Castle Square, selling a wide range of everyday and specialist food and drink produced within 30 miles of Ludlow.
