Herefordshire is a haven for the creative mind and many have deliberately sought out the inspiration and peace of the countryside to make and showcase some incredible work.
Old Chapel Gallery in Pembridge is a wonderful destination proudly showcasing only the work of British makers both inside and in their sculpture garden. They enhance the gallery with year-round exhibitions, this year including First Song March-April, a Hay Festival Exhibition end May-end June, Rings on the Water July-August, Gathering Swans September-October, and Christmas Curiosities November-January. Canwood Gallery in the little hamlet of Checkley is one of the most exciting recently opened rural art spaces outside of London. The dream of owner and farmer Stephen Dale, the wonderfully converted buildings and sculpture garden house work from emerging and established artists both local and international.
You’ll love the smaller showcase venues like Applestore Gallery on the edge of
Hereford City which also offers rented studios for emerging artists, and The Haymakers nestled right in Hay on Wye acts as a vibrant shop from which to purchase the designer made work of their collective members.
For stunning gems and jewellery,
browse the contemporary studio of Mike Gell, right in Hereford City. Here you’ll find the creative work of many British designers and can buy from the shop or commission bespoke pieces. Looking for a creative event?
