GARDENS
There’s all year round interest with varied garden themes set in eight acres of mature grounds bordering the River Wye. From the first flush of Spring blossom through to the
spectacular Autumn blaze and pale Winter light, there’s always interest and beauty at Brobury.
Come and experience for yourself the peace and tranquility of the gardens here. We welcome all nature lovers, gardeners,
artists, photographers and those who would just like to sit and picnic in beautiful surroundings.

Raymond Treasure and Gordon Fenn.
The original Victorian kitchen garden and impressive monkey puzzle tree sit at the heart of one of the Bury farms of the Benedictine Priory in Leominster. Raymond’s niece and garden writer Tamsin Westhorpe now runs the gardens and offers many gardening and craft courses, this year including stars of BBC Gardeners World offering spring masterclasses; a brilliant way to visit this 30 year old garden and learn a trick or two.
South of Hereford at Much Birch find the uniquely autobiographical garden of Sir
Roy Strong and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman, The Laskett Gardens. Four acres in size and open by pre booking only, this creation is unmistakably English and referred to by Sir Roy as a ‘visual expression of a very very happy marriage’. With over twenty different ‘rooms’ of fascinating themes including a rose garden, a knot garden,
an orchard, a pleached lime avenue, herbaceous borders and the Colonnade Court. The Laskett offers a unique portrait
of its makers, with the story of their marriage and their extraordinary lives woven into its very fabric.
Many historic buildings in Herefordshire
such as Hampton Court near Leominster and Hellens Manor at Much Marcle offer stunning gardens. June 10th and 11th 2017
is the magical Hellens Garden Festival.
In April take the opportunity to visit the spectacular private garden of Newport House in Almeley as The British Red Cross Great Spring Gardening Event takes place on April 26 2017. It is rare for these gardens to be publicly viewed, so a perfect opportunity to see them here.
