The Laskett Gardens
One of England’s largest private formal gardens to be laid out since 1945, they are an ever evolving creation over forty years of the historian, writer and diarist Sir Roy Strong and his late wife, the designer, Julia Trevelyan Oman.
Their four acres celebrate thrilling vistas and some twenty contrasting ‘rooms’ including a rose garden, a knot garden, an orchard, a pleached lime avenue, parterres, herbaceous borders and the Colonnade Court, with a new Italianate grotto and a pond approached through a winding woodland walk.
The Sissinghurst of the late twentieth century, this unique portrait of its makers weaves the story of their marriage and extraordinary lives into its very fabric.
