Using a strong foundation to build on through the season...
James Reynolds
Skills Coach, Gwernyfed RFC
Just prior to lockdown in March 2020, the 1st XV had made excellent progress and consolidated a strong position in the league. Since being released back to rugby training and matches, the current squad has taken ownership of their skills and team patterns and have shown a good level of energy added to several key players joining the squad from the youth.
The squad has developed a strong foundation to build on through the season and can look forward to positive performances, and challenging at the top end of the league. Since the easing of restrictions, it has been fantastic to see the vast numbers of supporters taking advantage of the fabulous clubhouse.
The strength of the men’s 1st XV lies with the age groups and it is great to have healthy numbers in the younger ranks and it is testament
to this that there are many players moving through the system into the 1st XV. This is mirrored in the women’s game with good numbers through the age groups who hopefully will continue to the women’s 1st XV in a few years.
The senior team are in a good place and I am looking forward to seeing how the season pans out despite so much disruption.
