Looking forward to an exciting and successful season...
James Brute
1st XV Captain, Gwernyfed RFC
This is my ninth season as senior player sporting the GREEN, WHITE and BLACK and I’m extremely proud to be named Gwernyfed captain.
When our last season finished, little did we think that it would lead to what was a weird 18 months with no rugby, no training, and no socials. I am really excited to back at the club and on the pitch with the boys. It almost feels like sense of normality is coming back even though is has been a strange build up to pre-season with adapting training in line with current covid regulation and changes in the rules.
I am born and bred Gwernyfed, as most people know, I wear the badge on my chest at all times. I have been playing for the club since the age of 14 - enjoying many tours in both youth and seniors and many international match days out with the club.
It is exciting team this year with group of young players coming through who are eager and talented, alongside seasoned players which should produce a great balance within the team.
This season kicka off with the WRU Bowl Competition, seeing us face sides we know very well such as Hirwaun, Cefn Coed and Ynysowen. This will be a competitive league, but one we think we get a lot of success from.
Overall, though the goal this year will be to enjoy every aspect of rugby which we have all missed in last 18 months.
We are very fortunate to have Dai and James back coaching us this season, they both bring enthusiasm and a huge knowledge of the game and as a team, we are hoping to bring them
an exciting and successful season. We are all looking forward to the opportunity to reproduce a great atmosphere at Trefecca Road again,
I know all the boys are hungry to get going and produce a memorable season on and off the field.
