The2021-22seasonwillsee GwernyfedYouthtakingpartintheBluesNorthRegionalYouth Cup North D where we will be competing against Abercwmboi, Mountain Ash and local rivals Builth Wells - all three teams are of a very high standard.
The WRU have announced that the age band for youth rugby for next season will be under 18, in line with Welsh Government strategy.
Traditionally, players can stay at youth level for three years from the age of 16 to 19, but this season, only players who are under 18 on August 31, 2021, will be able participate in youth rugby.
It’s part of the return to play strategy for the communitygamefollowingthelengthyshut-down caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hopefully,thenewdirectivewillmakeit more inviting to players moving up from the Under 16s who have benefitted from the excellent tutelage of Geriant Skyrme and Alun Phillips.
This season, Richard Davies and myself will help to bond our players into a strong team, ready for a challenging season.
All our youth coaches are very proud that the players leaving the youth set up at the end of last season are going onto continue playing at Gwernyfed at senior level. This shows their commitment to the Green, White and Blacks.
Manyoftheladshave playedfortheclubfrom the under 8 age group and really is a fantastic testament to the coaching structure at our club and the commitment of players, coaches and parents throughout the age groups. The future is a really bright one for our club going forward...
