    Looking forward
to the season ahead!
Caitlin Pugh
Ladies Captain, Gwernyfed RFC
Following a turbulent end to last year’s season, Gwernyfed Ladies have been back up and running in preparation for the South Wales Cup, which kicks off in September. COVID brought a halt to the Ladies storming run in the plate, which saw them easing into the 3rd round before rugby came to a standstill. Since the restrictions have eased, the ladies team have resumed training, with an array of new faces!
New work commitments for the ladies coaching staff saw the team without a coach during lockdown. The ladies section couldn’t have asked for more from Izaak, Adam and OB during the 2019/2020 season, and were extremely sad to see them go. Thankfully for the ladies Aiden Luxton has stepped up to the plate and is now the head coach of Gwernyfed Ladies RFC. Aiden has buckets of playing experience but has decided to end his career on a high, coaching Gwernyfed Ladies RFC.
As restrictions eased, the team were raring to get back on the pitch and Aiden has mirrored our enthusiasm with a great pre-season!
Matches commence on the 5th September and see the ladies team competing in East 1B of the South Wales Cup, playing Llantwit Fadre, Pontyclun and Llandaff North. July and
August will see the ladies continue with their pre-season training and competing in a number of friendlies, ready for the first game on the 5th September.
Gwernyfed Ladies are returning from the pandemic even bigger and better, with plenty of new faces combined with an abundance of experience, looking forward to the season ahead!
