I am looking forward to continuing my role as honorary Chaplain to Gwernyfed RFC; eagerly anticipating that the 2021/22 season will bring a change in fortune for us all both on and off the field.
My involvement with the club has been frustrated since my appointment in 2019 as wet weather was followed by Covid; though I've enjoyed numerous take-always from the Clubhouse throughout lock-down.
Since my previous programme note I've realised that my life long interest in sport can be connected to the fact that it was accessible and local, and so could be enjoyed by everyone irrespective of age or ability, player or spectator; just friends and neighbours sharing a common interest. So it's very important that community based clubs like Gwernyfed continue and thrive after the undoubted setbacks that Covid restrictions have brought to sport at every level.
As I wrote previously, my role as Chaplain is to offer pastoral support to all associated with Gwernyfed Rugby Football Club, irrespective of any particular religious affiliation. It's easier to speak with a friend, and I hope to develop my role by getting to know many of you better through involvement with the Club.
