Making the Brian Jones Memorial Ground the fortress it once was...
Gerwyn Williams
Senior Team Manager, Gwernyfed RFC
Firstly I’d like to say what an honour it is to be Senior Team Manager for a club I’ve had the privilege to represent for the past 14 years as a player. I would like to thank my predecessor Lee ‘Titch’ Thomas for all his hard work in the role over the previous three years and for recommending me to take over from him in the role.
This season, I will be combining the role of team manager with a playing role, I’m really looking forward to working along side Dai Roberts and James Reynolds and helping out in anyway I can to ensure the senior section runs as smoothly as possible.
With last season being a write off due to the pandemic, with the a few old heads retiring, along with the lowering in age for youth team rugby, this season promises to be an intriguing one.
We have so far had good numbers to pre-season training - with a mix of returning stalwarts and bright, exciting youngsters coming through from the youth section, supplemented by a couple of returning GRFC boys from other clubs and the odd new face.
Our aim for the season is to be competitive and improve upon where we were when we left off, and to make the Brian Jones Memorial Ground the fortress it once was. But, as importantly, to get boys back playing and enjoying themselves after such a long lay-off.
I am really looking forward to our players making an impact on and off the pitch, hopefully being able to field strong squads on a Saturday and regularly in mid week for an U23/U20 side, ensuring all boys available get ample game time.
We have all the raw materials and ability along with a skilled and enthusiastic coaching set to be a real force this season.
As always, Green, White & Black...
