A club at the heart
of the local community...
Robert Stephens
Chairman, Gwernyfed RFC
As you are reading these notes, Rugby will have restarted. Little did we know that when we left the field, seeking shelter from that mudbath against Old Penarthians, that it would take 18 months of Worldwide turmoil to restart competitive rugby.
We will all have experrienced sadness and struggle throughout, but we must now look forward positively to rebuilding the Rugby Family. The weekend committed to meeting up with old friends enjoying the next generation of players coming through and stories of past battles after a hard weeks work while relaxing for an hour or so in good company after the matches across all sections of the club.
The Club never sleeps. Although we have not met face to face - we have, like others, grasped new concepts of Zoom to meet and plan our way through uncertain times. We have also benefited from solid support from various bodies. If you pass the clubhouse you will see the newly built patio completed - this has been on the agenda for a few years. Thanks to our new Bar Manager, Dom and his work in seeking grants has seen this build completed successfully.
Senior Directors have also sought funding for another much needed project - the toilets at pitchside for our youngsters, ably supported by the WRU and Sportswales. This project however will have to be match funded by ourselves, so we will need to all bounce back together and raise funds we need.
Onto the pitch. In a recent meeting, all sections of the Club's playing management have reported good numbers in training. Everybody is rearing to go and face the challenges ahead in the coming year. It will be different, but we will offer a warm welcome all visiting clubs as well as our officials, sponsors, supporters, past players, VPs. I thank you all for your continued support.
Let us all now look forward and hope the future of our beloved club holds as many treasured memories as the past...
