Hereford stands within a backdrop of historic buildings, a beautiful Cathedral and the stunning River Wye flowing through its heart. A creative City with an aspiring Independent Quarter and indie food scene, home to some amazing award winning artisan producers and inspiring artists.
Beautiful Buildings
Saxon in origin, this 7thC City was established by the Normans who rebuilt its castle and cathedral, with only the latter still standing today. Bordering Wales ‘Here-ford’ was an established river crossing point. Its heritage is illustrated through the beautiful half-timbered buildings and architectural spectacles like The Shire Hall and the stately Town Hall.
The 1000 year old Norman marketplace High Town hosts weekly retail markets offering seasonal food and crafts.
The Black & White House, a spectacular Jacobean landmark popular with visitors, is now open as a museum, a life sized bronze Hereford bull designed by internationally renowned sculptor Brian Alabaster stands proudly outside.
A short walk or drive will bring you to the Waterworks Museum, and just down the road is the Cider Museum once home of the world’s largest cider maker Bulmers.
