Packed with history, some formal and some less so, all of Herefordshire’s gardens are absolutely stunning, uniquely and lovingly designed to offer pleasure to those who visit.
Kentchurch Court
Considered to be one of the most important historic houses in England, Kentchurch Court is set on a 5,000 acre estate. It is the ancestral home of the Scudamore family, who have developed the 25 acre gardens into a beautiful rhododendron wood, a wonderful walled garden with vibrant borders, and an inspiring vegetable garden.
The deer park contains not just 250 fallow deer, but also many ancient trees. Combine your visit with a tour of the grand stately home (pre-booked) and learn about the family’s deep and enthralling history.
The Laskett Gardens
South of Hereford at Much Birch find the uniquely autobiographical garden of Sir Roy Strong and his late wife Julia Trevelyan Oman, The Laskett Gardens.
This beloved creation, set over 4 acres,
is unmistakably English with over twenty different ‘rooms’ of fascinating themes including a rose garden, a knot garden, an orchard, a pleached lime avenue, herbaceous borders and the Colonnade Court. Hailed as the Sissington of the late twentieth century, you can purchase exclusive Laskett Gardens souvenirs from the gift shop, only available when you visit.
Brobury House & Garden
Uniquely open all year round, from the first flush of spring blossom to the spectacular late autumn blaze and beyond into the pale light of winter, Brobury House’s terraced Victorian garden for all seasons offers 8 acres of peace and tranquility, overlooking the River Wye towards Hay on Wye. Picnics welcome and don’t forget your camera.
